Programs

The curriculum includes topics such as as wound care, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED). AEDs are machines that supply the heart with needed shock. A lot of class hours are spent doing hands-on training on quality training equipment.

Students can also sign up for stand-alone CPR/AED classes. There are three levels available for enrolment, each lasting 4, 5, and 6 hours long respectively.

Major sprains

Sprains are usually harmless and do not warrant a trip to the doctor. They heal in one to two weeks with home management. If you rest the injured limb, while using ice and elevating, gradual movement should be safe after two days. However, there are times when sprains are bad and need to be seen by a doctor. When providing first aid, remember these warning signs and symptoms:

  • Victim is unable to bear any weight on the injured limb.
  • Joint feels unstable and numb, and is very painful. This could be sign of a completely torn ligament (the elastic tissue that holds bones and muscles together).
  • Redness around and spreading out from the injured area. This is a sign of infection.
  • Previous injury in the same area.
  • Chronic pain
